Marietta Radomska är doktorand i politisk filosofi vid Adam Mickiewicz University i Poznan. Hon skriver om nya former av övervakning - inte minst i relation till Deleuze tankar om kontrollsamhället. Hennes arbete är alltså intressant i relation till såväl samtida organisering av näringslivet, som de senaste månadernas svenska debatt om Försvarets Radioanstalt (FRA).

Abstract:
Grasping the Actual... Towards the control society.
“The Actual is not what we are but, rather, what we become, what we are in the process of becoming - that is to say, the Other, our becoming-other.” – as Gilles Deleuze puts it (Deleuze and Guattari, What is Philosophy?). On the other hand the Present seems to be what we are and therefore what we cease to be...
It is Michel Foucault who shows how the assemblage of disciplinary power (techniques that transform bodies) and biopolitical power (technologies aimed at the management of life in terms of the existence of life of a population) characterising disciplinary society allows one to move linearly from one “space of enclosure” to another (from school to factory, from factory to hospital, etc.).
Nonetheless, as a result of instant development of communication and information technologies (in the post-war era) as well as of mutation of capitalism (the capitalism of overproduction as Deleuze puts it), one faces new, seemingly liberating, ultrarapid mechanisms of control, continuous modulations, the peculiar “opening” of traditionally understood institutions, the figure of the corporation, consumption as a locus of becoming-subject. Indeed, the individual identified owing to digital technology exists as a set of data being submitted to different operations and thus becomes “dividual”. In a kind of “superpanopticism” surveillance acknowledged as primarily visual relation has transformed into dataveillance, a mode of ordering information that corresponds to the modulatory effects of power. Taking a longer view Deleuzian “control society” converges to a large degree with sociological definitions of “network society”, “information society”, “knowledge society” on the one hand and with Foucauldian perspective of “governmentality” on the other.
In this paper I will attempt to scrutinise the shift between the concept of discipline drawn by Foucault and the concept of control briefly examined in Deleuze’s “Post-scriptum to Societies of Control” while taking into account contemporary surveillance studies. Concomitantly, the latter allow us to attempt to answer the fundamental Kantian question concerning “pure acuality”: who we are at this point of history and what leads us “beyond” our present time – and thus to diagnose our actual becomings (as Deleuze puts it).
